On a medium voltage one-line diagram where is the correct placement for the breaker meter / relay / trip device is the c/t to be indicated on the load or line side of the device it seems to me it is located on the line side however I see many documents that locate this on the load side??

By "device", I assume you mean the breaker. I would consider the "line" side and the "load" side to be the same because the load is at the end of the line. One side of the breaker would be the bus side and the other side would be the line side

Ideally, CTs for line relays should be on the bus side and CTs for bus relaying should be on the line side. This way, faults in the breaker are covered by both sets of relays. It doesn't matter for metering; both locations see the same current.

Often, however, in MV switchgear, there is no space for CTs on the bus side so all CTs are placed on the line side.
