Protruding Devices 314.19/314.20

I know 314.19/314.20 address the depth of the box into the drywall but is there a code that addresses the box protruding the drywall??? Or is it the same code. I know this might be a basic question but its been a long week and I keep going in circles that lead me back to 314.19 & 20. Is there a code that address this or is this just a pet peeve of mine that I just don't like. Last thing I want to do is make someone change something where there's not a specific code that requires it. See pic for reference. The device is secured, they just didn't cheat the ears back to get the box flush with drywall.

No there is no prohibition as long as the maximum 1/4" setback and 1/8" minimum gap requirements are met.
