Hello, just a general question here...

I'm looking at a single line right now with 5kV and 35kV equipment (switchgear, generators, transformers, etc) and there seem to be PTs (potential transformers) everywhere! Each switchgear bus, each generator, etc... I was just wondering what the various usages of PTs are. I've only ever really encountered them in metering situations til now.

Thanks!

All sorts of different relay applications. Over voltage, under voltage, phase imbalance. phase sequence, reverse power, etc.....

Yeah, I work in the indutrial field. We use the for all our protection circuits and indication metering. Pretty much a must when dealing with medium voltage or up.
They may be using the PT on the generator along with CT inputs for syncing or sync protection..
