Public meter

I need to add a public meter to a residential 3 family house. Does the meter socket need to have a bypass in it. There is no fire alarm panel, just 110 volt smokes.

Typically in MA a bypass is required for any non-dwelling unit meter.

So I would expect you to need a bypass socket. You need to check with the power company supplying the service to be sure. Is it National grid or is it one of the many municipal power and light companies?
