What type of wiring methods is for puck lights. As Type of wire, location of trans. What brought this up is a violation on a job. In which 16/2 SPT-2 was installed in the wall to the basement to the transformer.SPT-2 typewire is not allowed in concealed wall space. What other type of cables could be used and still be small enough to connect to the puck lights.

Re: Puck light wiring

What county in Maryland?

Even though I'll agree it to be a violation, there is one county that I know of that will allow it.

We don't install "puck" lights, but we do install alot of low-voltage under/over cabinet lights.
We typically use 14/2, 12/2, or depending on load, even 10/2 NM in the walls with transformer(s) in basement or above cabinets(s).

Do a search on this site for "puck lights", there are numerous informative threads.

Re: Puck light wiring

I posted a thread puck light transformers. The paper work says to be installed in an enclosed j box but AHJ wanted it to be vented

Re: Puck light wiring

The easyest way we found is to cut in a receptacle over the cabnets and wire from there. but when you have to mount the transformer in the basement then Chapter 3 method has to be used.
Just pop out of the wall into a small handy box and run spt/2 conductor from there. I noticed that you said 16awg was used, Keep in mind that these low voltage circuits can draw very high amps real quick if you don't watch your wattage.
