pull box sizing

If i have two four inch pipes coming into a trough do i have to obide by pull box sizing rules. the trough will be mounted to the bottom of a dist. panel.So i belive i can go strght through the trough into the panel with/out worrying about box sizing.

I do not believe you are required to size the trough per the requirements of 314.28. A trough is not really a box but should be considered a raceway. So actually, you don't need to be worried about box fill, but really raceway fill. Check out section 366.6 of the NEC 2002 for sizing requirements.

It sounds as if the installation conforms to article 366 auxiliary gutter , section 366.10 (D)deals with deflection of insulated conductors in this gutter space but there is no mention of the pull box requirements found in 376 for wireways. 366.6 (A) references minimum bending space per table 366.6 (A).

Wireways
376.23 provides guidance for use of wireways as a pull box "(B) Metallic Wireways Used as Pullboxes. Where insulated conductors 4 AWG or larger are pulled through a wireway, the distance between raceway and cable entries enclosing the same conductor shall not be less than that required in 314.28(A)(1) for straight pulls and 314.28(A)(2) for angle pulls."

I do not see this requirement for Auxiliary Gutter (366)
