If the fixture is mounted to the wall, then the switch is wall mounted as well, so it wouldn't be a violation. If there was another light that was controlled by a switch, then it wouldn't matter either.

My answer to the original question is that it is acceptable to have a light there, and for that light to be controlled by a pull chain. It is not acceptable, however, for that to be the only light in the bathroom. As Ryan pointed out, you must have at least one lighting outlet controlled by a wall switch.

I disagree. What the code requires is a ?wall switch controlled lighting outlet.? The luminaire itself is not an outlet. The outlet is the box within the wall, the box to which the luminaire is mounted. So it would not matter if the luminaire has a switch built into it; the wires coming into the box must be controlled by a wall switch.
