I have a customer that needs two 120 V circuits ran to a lift pump for the sewer.
He has a pull out 2 pole fuse holder. This is the only spare in the panel.
Can I run two 120 volt circuits to the pump and alarm. Useing the two pole fuse holder . I would install 20 amp fuses or 15.

The city is making him pay for a complete new septic system . He does not have the money for an upgrade.

Wouldn't that application be similar to a multi-wire branch circuit where you tie the handles of two single pole breakers together except this time is it fuses?

Sort of but not exactly. The two ckts can be on the same phase. If the pump ckt trips, the alarm ckt will still be hot. The OP can run 2 neutrals if he has to.

Not really because even with a double pole fuse holder the fuses can blow independent of each other. Both circuits will not be de-energized because one fuse is blown.

I doubt if you could use this for a multiwire branch circuit because it will not kill both circuits.

I would use the spare for the pump and add the alarm to another lighting circuit in the dwelling. In case the alarm circuit should trip at least they would know its out and

Incorrect, because the MWBC requirement is for manual disconnecting, not for OC operation.

Good catch, I hadn't thought of that. I was thinking of a breaker operation and comparing it to fuses. In that case it could be even better than a breaker because the other circuit would not be disabled. You wouldn't want the alarm to go out just because the pump blew a fuse.

Again, good catch.
