I have never pulled fiber before and was wondering if there was anything I should be concerned about. There are a few 90s in the pull. I am pulling in 2" j-hooks. Any tips?
Keep your sweeps gradual what you may think is not much of a bend is for fiber not so much for breaking but it can also cause your run to fail when tested depended on the loss spec'ed. Also, there are pulling tensions that should not be exceeded but its been quite awhile since I pulled fiber so dont have values for you. Things have changed a bit since I was doing data work (did all the dumb work). I am not a tech but worked closely with them after all the pipe was hung and all the cable pulled in.
This really is not part of your question but, with Cat5 and such we had spec's on how many feet a run could be like no more than 235ft or whatever, fiber was different cause it was made for long runs (multi mode or single mode) with that it was keep the sweeps to a minimum and don't step on it Hope this helps
In the universe of fiber optics 350 foot with two ninety's is a cakewalk. They do sell cable tensiometers but if that is unavailable to you just do a hand pull, and try not to yank hard. Easy does it. When I did a lot of this we had 5-6 hundred foot between cable vaults, and some of those total runs were a mile long. Get er done...
