eBay

eBay

eBay's always got old NEC books listed.
I've purchased many, ranging from $30 to $200 each, depending on age and condition.

Anyone know where I can purchase older versions ( Pre 1975 ) of the NEC?

Hey, best of luck with that. You and hundreds of other people are doing the same thing. The prices on eBay are going through the roof on hard-to-find editions, especially pre-war since many of them went to the rag man. I've got most of a set, but for now I'm still protecting some of my secret sources until I get them all. Check back in 20 years. ;)

I have back to 1916 with some holes, those holes have gotten VERY HARD to fill due to the soaring cost..Might have to put a hit on Marc's (MD's) house. MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM Marc whats that street address again. Then again for the right price I might part with a few...

I've gotten most of mine through ebay, too.

However, I'm thinking of sending Vinnie and Bruno over to Marc's house with their blow torch and vise grips!

I just saw on fleabay where a 1940 code book went for over $100.00. I've got a bunch of old code books. Within arms reach of my desk I found a 1940, 1947 and 1959, and a 90, 93, 96, 99, 02 & 05. I've got two boxes of old code books around here somewhere. Think I'll hit Ebay and take the winter off.

Not before you list them here first, for all your buddys to fight over! ;)

Average for a decent 1940 is $83.13. High lately was 280.00, and a crappy one sold for 10.50.

I have 1-Supplement to the 1947 NEC, 1-1940 NEC, 2-1947 NEC, 2-1951 NEC, 1-1953, 3-1956, 4-1959, 3-1962, these are all the older style brown paperback codebooks, and then I have 2-1968, 1-1971 and 2-1975 code books that are the slightly larger ones with colored covers. Any one interested in these may private message me. :)

My wife recently threw out one of my 1999 Code books -- looseleaf at that!!

When I protested that action, she sheepishly fished it out of the trash, which had not been collected yet, and reassembled it back.

I listed it on ebaY for 2 whole weeks, and not one bid, even at less than $10!!

I suppose this is not old enough for collectors?

I have 2 extra 1990 editions around here, plus an extra 1996. I might even have a dusty 1987 at the shop. PM me if anyone is interested in obtaining one.

Yep... it's not old enough.

But what your wife did, and why, is exactly the reason the older they get, the harder they are to find, and the more $ they're worth.

FWIW, as long as we're advertising here, I have two '93's an '84 (bad shape, though), and fairly good condition '40 I'm willing to part with.

okay tell me why are we collecting old code books????? I just throw a bunch in the garbage...LMAO next time I will find someone who uses ebay to sell them... And no I do not use ebay I do local first they are my friends.....

Personally, I find it fun to 'go back' and research how the trade has evolved over the years.

Do you go out and buy a DVD, watch it, then throw it away?

Why can't the good ol? NFPA provide copies of old books?

I have heard (I believe it was from Bryan Holland) that all will be available in the near future on line.

good point 480.... I do read a lot and no I dont go back and see how it has changed..to much monkey business just keeping up with the changes...only 20 yrs to retirement gentlemen wonder how it will change in 20yrs.....

Sometimes the old books are necessary to find out if something was installed per code at the time it was installed. I frequently have to refer to the circa 1980 book.

But I hope I don't run across any installations where I have to refer to the 1940 book!! If so, I think my advice will be "Rip it out and install it per today's code!!"

If it was wired to a code that old, that's probably the reason they called you in the first place!

Well, there. I did it. I made my girlfriend happy. I just listed a bunch of old-tyme code books on Fleabay. I hate to get rid of them, but they're gathering dust.....hmmm, come to think of it, soooo's she....
