Does anyone know of any technology available that would allow foremen to order material in the field electronically and avoid having to call in orders over the phone?

Re: Purchasing

Most jobsites have fax machines.
We usually fax orders in, it is more accurate also. We don't get the "I thought you said L6 20R..."

Re: Purchasing

I read on another forum about a guy that has got his truck outfitted with a laptop equipped with a GPS navigation system, software that connects his laptop to his cel to enable faxing directly from the van and a portable printer.
Sounds like a nice mobile office set-up that pretty much allows you to do all bidding, ordering and any other communication necessary to run your business without leaving the truck.
A customer could be impressed when you take a look at their job tell them they will have a proposal by the end of the day, then go out to the truck and 5 minutes later their fax machine is printing out a proposal from you.

Re: Purchasing

You should be able to do what you are needing with a Black Barry and email the order to your supplier.
