We have a fleet fuel dispenser mounted on an outdoor concrete pad. The dispenser has a canopy overhead but is otherwise exposed to the outdoor environment all around. We're installing a powered-rewind hose reel on the concrete pad for dispensing the fuel. The hose reel is equipped with an explosion-proof motor. There will be a momentary push-button switch -- to operate the hose rewind -- mounted on the vertical canopy post adjacent to the reel. It is planned to mount the switch 48" vertically above the concrete pad.
Intuitively, it seems the push-button switch should be explosion proof. But then there's this diagram that shows a similar canopy post outside the Class 1 Div 2 boundary.
Does this mean the switch (and enclosure) do not have to be explosion proof? The horizontal distance between the hose reel and the canopy post is 8.5", and the highest point of the hose reel is 25.5" above the concrete pad.
