I recently had an incident where a Bulldog Pushmatic circuit breaker failed to trip in a phase to neutral fault condition. Was this an isolated defect or does Pushmatic have a history of this?
The Bulldog Pushmatics I've known in fault situations have behaved themselves. This is a highly subjective statement, however, as I have never had much of an idea of the actual fault current levels at the time of the fault.
we serviced a commercial building that had these in it's original construction specs. built in the late fourties! i have never had a problem such that you discribed. there are bad breakers in all the manufacturers lines that i have come across during my career in the electrical industry. and i have found them in single pole-two pole and three pole configurations..... and the pushamatic breakers are still available!!
i would not be concerned about a single failure. there could be other reasons it did not trip that are not the fault of the breaker itself (like a poor ground fault path).
without better information on what happened, it is hard to fault any one thing.
