Are you talking about using 'third party' breakers, or are you worried that they are old?
 
The nec certainly would have nothing to say but for sure they are obsolete but still around in the field. Are you asking if they should be changed out?

I hate the things. Just the other day I saw one in a house that the 'on / off' label thingy had come loose and you couldn't tell for sure which position the breaker was in. It would show 'on' and all you had to do was tap it and the indicator would drop down and show 'off'.

There are hundreds of them in the older subdivisions around here.

Eh, not my favorite, but they were pretty solid devices. There's a good reason we don't see nearly as many Zinsco, or FPE, or other oldies these days compared to the Pushmatics. Bolt-in, compact, generally reliable.

Sure, I replace them when I can, for a few reasons, but I think they've held up pretty well over the years, all in all.
