what is the general opinion out there on pushmatic panels for res. or comm. uses i believe they are old nasty things and should go anyone got proof for this opinion

Actually they are pretty reliable. I've caused a short on an old system with Pushmatic breakers and the breaker tripped instantly, unlike FPE's and even GE's.

Not only that, they are bolt-on so they have bolt-on reliability. The only major downside to PM is that availability and price of replacement breakers.

When I first started in business I used them exclusively because of the bolt in feature. The only problem that I have found is that the internal spring would rust and would not reset or trip.

I think the breakers are fine, what I dont like is the small enclosures they come in, or the neutral buss design in most of the panels.

I think they're ok, the panels don't have a lot of room but they seem to perform well.

The only flaw is that the little "on/off" flag will frequently stick or fail to work.
