We are installing a multiple array, multiple inverter grid intertie PV system at a commercial location. We are routing the outputs of the inverters to the grid through backfed individual breakers at a dedicated subpanel . My question is: can we attach the individual GEC's for each inverter at the sub panel or do we need to take them all back to the ground at the main service.

NEC 690.47 each DC source must have a DC grounding electrode system installed and sized based on 250.66. So if sized properly one could tap externally of each inverter to grounding electrode.

You need to install an EGC with PV AC source to the sub panel disconnect based on the OCPD being back feed by the Inverter. But I think you are confusing the issue of the GE that is for the DC system which typically would be made at the inverter and AC system uses the GE that is installed for the subpanel or the main service. You can use the same GE for both AC and
DC systems but your GEC must be sized based on 250.66.
