I was just wondering what you guys think between the "hot box" vs. "the blanket". I've used the hot box alot with success, but I've never used the blanket. How long does it take the blanket to get hot?Is it easy to handle? Thanks

Re: pvc heaters

I find that unless handled with care, the blanket will fail in the field before a hot box will. The hot box is my first choice for heating pipe. The blanket is very handy when you have pvc stub ups from a concrete slab that need offset or adjusted to meet the equipment. The blankets are easier to carry on a service truck, but a hot box is more suited to the jobsite.

Re: pvc heaters

my choice is the hot box and heat gun for tight spaces. blankets are too rich for my blood. they do work good one multiple sticks though.

"Propane weed burner" huh

Apprentice tip #3:
In such situations, a can of Krylon neutral gloss gray is often useful. Be sure to paint the entire exposed section of the PVC conduit so as not revealing differences of color. And don't forget to use a fine grade of sandpaper to remove the hardened bubbles first.
