am I understanding the code correctly that if I dig a trench with a required burial depth of 18" for my situation and a large rock is crossed at a depth of 12 " all I need to do is pure some ready mix cement on the 3/4" PVC covering it 2" extending to the rock and I have met the code requirements or do I really need to Jack Hammer the Rock ?

The idea is to protect the raceway from potential damage from digging above. Proper cover performs this function but in cases where proper cover cannot be acheived other suitable methods should be available that will perform the same function. 2" concrete over the shallow portion of the underground installation should suffice.

No not in this case.

Table 300.5
In trench below 50-mm (2-in.) thick concrete or equivalent
The 2" encasement comes in at 230.6 'conductors considered outside of buildings.

2 ins of concrete has to cover the pipe.

( In a trench covered by 2 in/50 mm of concrete or equivalent ) I can`t find that the concrete has to encase the conduit.
300 6 B says in concrete or in direct contact with earth.
Table 300.5 note 5 allows you to install conduit under a slab when solid rock is present 2 in below grade but the concrete has to extend to the rock also (maybe this note is where the encased in concrete came came from ) ;)

Allen, I don't think PVC would need to be protected from corrosion.

BTW, you never did tell us what door to use. :D

Well Roger within 30 sq. miles It depends what jurisdiction you are in !

Pasco , Hernando , City of temple terrace only require door # 1 . But I`d use door # 2`s #4 Only hecause of having to protect door #1`s ,# 6.Just not worth the time for a couple of cents more in material.
Pinellas, and Hillsboro are sitting Behind door #2 with # 4 and youre ok.
City of Tampa behind door #3 with 1/0
I hope that makes it a bit clearer, especially since there is supposed to be a uniform code :D

Means of grounding are more confusing than what size wire we are required to use

Allen, you need to have the city of Tampa inspector show you that paper again, tell him you want to see City Of Tampa Chapter 5-182 (g)

City Of Tampa Chapter 5-182 (g) states that an unbroken #4 copper wire shall connect ground rods and bond water system in a continuous unbroken run from meter base to rods to water.
If there is more to it, tell him to show you.

Roger when I get back to work after this surgery I had on monday.I will contact him.If I remember this correctly,250.66 shows 1/0 for grounding conductor. That is what they are citing.
If I had it my way #4 all the way so I don`t have to protect the # 6.A few midget straps smd 3/4 shot pins.Done deal but this is Florida and some of what goes on here is ridulous.
I am sure you have seen in other posts how cockeyed some inspectors have their heads screwed on around here.
Don`t get me wrong, There are allot of good inspectors but I guess like anywhere else there are the bad ones and some are just great to work WITH.
