PVC jacketed MC Cable

If PVC jacketed MC Cable is listed for sunlight, direct burial and for exposed work does it still need protection from physical damage where it emerges from earth?

330.12 Uses Not Permitted
Type MC cable shall not be used where exposed to the following destructive corrosive conditions, unless the metallic sheath is suitable for the conditions or is protected by material suitable for the conditions:
(1) Where subject to physical damage
(2) Direct burial in the earth
(3) In concrete
(4) Where subject to cinder fills, strong chlorides, caustic alkalis, or vapors of chlorine or of hydrochloric acids

If it emerges from earth in the middle of a grassy back yard secured to a 4x4 post to feed a GFI, wouldn't that be concidered to be subjected to physical damage by lawn equipment (i.e. weedeaters) and if so, should it be protected by a SCH 80 PVC sleeve?

Subject to damage is a very subjective interpretation since you're trying to decide what may or may not happen. What may be considered subject to physical damage by one person may not be by another.

I'm not sure about the material cost but from an installation standpoint it's much cheaper to install than PVC and wire. Just dig a trench and throw it in and you're done.

PVC coated MC seems like it fast to install. I hope to check on the pricing and compare it to a similar installation with PVC and THHN.
