I have a customer who is selling his house and I am cleaning things up a little bit. My question, can the following wire be exposed in his crawl space. Centerline 140 pvc jacketed submersible pump cable tw 6 awg with ground. This is 6 awg copper TW 140 (f) wire with a pvc jacket. Does it need to be in a raceway?

Thanks.

I searched pvc and tw and couldn't find an answer.

Re: pvc jacketed wire in crawl space

TW with a pvc cover is roughly the same as NM and is rated at 60C temperature.

Maybe this is old NM cable?

My guess is that it is allowed to be run like NM 6AWG.
NEC 2002 334.15 (C) In Unfinished Basements. Where the cable is run at angles with joists in unfinished basements, it shall be permissible to secure cables not smaller than two 6 AWG or three 8 AWG conductors directly to the lower edges of the joists. Smaller cables shall be run either through bored holes in joists or on running boards.

Re: pvc jacketed wire in crawl space

If you look in the UL white book for submersible pump cable you'll find this cable is only for use with submersible pumps in a well column. It does need to be in a raceway, but its a more expensive cable than THHN. Must of had some laying around.
