Re: PVC PIPE GOING INTO HOUSE

Probably don't need, but it depends on your location. In washington state you seldom see expansion joints, esp comining up out of ground. Hot climates on the south side may require expansion joint. Look at the PVC expansion table to find out how much it will expand.

Expansion may not be a problem, but the conduit settling deeper in the ditch may cause the wires to pull away at termination point.

According to Carlon (pg180 of the 1-31-2000 catalog)"See Section 347-9 of the NEC for guidance on the need for expansion fittings.......Also under notes from Carlon; Do not use Expansion coupling when encased in concrete or in direct burial; Conduit is immoblized by fill; Check out the information from the mfg.

In cold climates where freezing of the earth can cause "heaving" movement, expansion joints should be used.

Re: PVC PIPE GOING INTO HOUSE

the expansion joint is set up ABOVE the ground where expect alot of frost or ground movement and i use it alot with electral service but for large one i useally run rigid galvalized conducts for that one for half inch you say here we use common sense for that and use the splice box one size larger than the normal one i useally i use it for the reason for fexibality when we get hard frost in this area and the frost can go down much as 3/4 meter deep some case more depend on the area
