I will be installing a 200A service & wish to run THWN 3/0 copper[after it leaves the meter socket it will probably be partially underground] in conduit. Most services I see in the area have SE cable clamped to the side of the house which I'm sure is fine, however for extra protection I wish to use conduit. My question is if code allows to have SE cable clamped to the side of the house, then it seems this area would therefore not be considered "subject to physical damage". Therefore it seems I could use Schedule 40 or 80 pvc being this is not a mast service & will be mounted under the eve @ proper clearances.so would I be allowed to use these choices or would I still have to use Rigid or IMC?Sorry so long.

In my opinion you are absolutely right. If SE is fine than sch 40 is.

There is no need to use sch 80.

Just as a side note, the code says that sch 80 PVC provides the same physical protection as GRC and IMC. I am not saying I agree, but that is what it says.

Re: PVC SCHEDULE 40 OR 80

Thanks for your input.

Also thanks for the note about the GRMC , IMC , & SCH 80 PVC all being suitable by code. I did not Know that. It definitly can be confusing with there definition of "succeptable to physical damage" Thanks again
