PVC split coupling or repair couplings?

We have several new underground feeds coming into existing 400A and 600A disconnects on the outside of buildings (previously all overhead feeds). The new feeds are either 2 1/2 inch or 3 inch SCH 80 PVC. With the other equipment (panels and subpanel feeds) already mounted the only way I can think of to complete the conduit to the boxes is by using a split coupling. The disconnects are already in service and will remain in service until the day we cut them over, there is no good way to unmount them so that I can lift them onto the conduit. The underground feeds are in and there is not enough play to fudge the conduit into place.

Is it legal to make your own split coupling (from a conduit bell end for instance). I can find Carlon "Split kits" which include (2) 7 inch split couplings and a 2 foot section of split pvc-- but that's designed for when you damage an underground conduit-- and it's an expensive solution when all I need are the repair couplings.

Any other ideas?
Thanks!

Well there is 300.18 that says that raceways "shall be installed complete between outlet, junction, or splicing points prior to the installation of conductors", but reality is that doesn't always happen, especially when dealing with something existing. Expansion couplings are one way to make this easier to deal with though. I have used them for that purpose even if the expansion fitting wasn't otherwise needed.
