I'm wiring a generator and I'm using PVC pipe in the ground outside for the normal, emergency and line power. I have four 4 inch PVC pipes for the line and four 4 inch pipes for the load into the CT cabinet. Could I mark the wires so that all in one pipe are blue and the other pipe is black and the other pipe is red and the last white. I think this is wrong but my office is telling me that since it is in PVC and it is outdoors and I have no ko's in the CT cabinets its a large rectangle cutout for the pipes its ok. Could you please tell me where I could find my answer in the 2002 code book? THANK YOU FRANK

I am not sure about that Wayne, I hope Karl will shed some light on this.

One of the requirements of the section is that the raceways are run in close proximity to each other. I think you would have to be in between the raceways to experience high magnetic fields. However I sure would be interested in Karl's opinion.

I have used this exception myself a few times to go from a pad mount transformer into the service gear.

Re: pvc

Wayne I imagine there must be some difference as you say. :) I hope Karl adds some comments as I am just guessing.

The reason I have done this in the past was to make terminating easer. The 8 raceways where on spacer racks with only two inches between them and about 36" below grade. I may not do it in the future depending on Karl's comments.

Re: pvc

...I rememeber a job where the phase conductors and neutrals were run in parrallel conduits...1 phase per conduit...the wires overheated...damaged beyond any type of repair...all new wiring pulled...this was for an entire office building....I think the contractor who originally installed the service this way is out of business now (broke).
