We have received a comment from one of the Electrical Inspectors/Permit Reviewers that Emergency feeder duct bank and the Main Service feeder duct bank (under concrete or ground) shall be RGS or IMC only. No PVC is permitted.

The duct bank that have been specified for our project is "Concrete encased".

Can anyone of you direct me to the "NEC 1999" code section which prevents PVC schedule 80 usage (with Concrete encasing) for above feeders.

Thanks

Re: PVC

I did not find it in 300-5, ?Underground Installations,? nor in 347, ?Rigid Nonmetallic Conduit,? nor in 700, ?Emergency Systems.? 230-43 does list Rigid Nonmetallic Conduit as an acceptable wiring method for Service-Entrance Conductors.

Re: PVC

Is this a health care facility. If so look at 517-30(C)(3) This may be what they are refering to. This still wouldn't apply to the Main Service Feeder. (normal source)

Is this a local code?

Re: PVC

This is for a Facility which will be used by a Microphone manufacturing company.

The Electrical code applicable is NEC 1999.

Re: PVC

unless the engineering specifications say to use rigid or imc, i can not see why you can't use pvc. i have had inspectors refer to the engineering specs for these types of installation, but also say that you are not violating article 300.
