article 330
mc cable may be supported with cable ties.
Are plastic zip ties considered cable ties?
i had an inspector tell me that they could be used to hold the cable in place but could not be used to support the weight of the cable. the way i read the code in article 330 was quite the contrary. does his argument hold any water or not?

His argument is unfounded.

330.30(A) General.
Type MC cable shall be supported and secured by staples, cable ties, straps, hangers, or similar fittings
or other approved means designed and installed so as not to damage the cable.

I don't think so, but does the staple, cable tie, strap or similar fitting have to be designed for MC cable?

One of our local inspector failed an inspection and required that the staple that was used to support the MC cable should be designed for MC cable. So the contractor had to find staples that on the box it specified for MC cable.

Where in that section does it say what the inspector thinks that it says? The words cable ties are right there.
