I have just started my own electrical bus and finished the rough in of a 3000+ sg ft home about a week ago. Now I have already been paid 2/3 rds of the total cost (based on so much a foot including wire and boxes ect) My Question is should I charge the same per foot and the same footage to rewire the same house after the wire was cut out last night?
The builder just called me today and said someone cut out most of the wire.
I want to be fair to me and the builder.
Thanks

Same price! Maybe even more. Price of copper is all over the board.
Who has insurance? Contact your insurance man and talk to him.
My 3 best friends are my insurance man, my accoutant, my attorney and my wife.

without a doubt the only fair way for both of you is time and material, it will be hard to estimate the time needed to trace every circuit, set J- boxes, pull out old wire, ect. copper is out of site now. I would tell him T&M and then say "by the way, the next house I do will cost $ .25 /ft more because of copper prices"

I plan to charge the full price to rewire but the total cost included set out (which hasnt been done ) I always get 2/3rds of the total cost after rough in. Sould I charge just the 2/3rds again?

I wonder which one is holding two positions or is your wife not one of the three?

Oops that's 4. See I told you my accountant was one of my best friends!

Most of the insurance policy's will cover only the cost of the wire itself, less any deductable. More often than not you get burned on the labor. So if this contractor is offering to pay you to rewire, jump on it right now and get his signed contract, and hopefully a check to boot. With the current cost of copper, the scrap value, and the prevalence of smokeable stimulants that have zombie army's turning to every source of theft they can locate, I am thinking any future proposals I send out will address theft of installed wire right up in the front end, insurance be dammed.

Good point! 2/3 again, sounds real fair, plus something for demo & for price increase of the copper, They should have insurance or else its still not your fault.

Question... If they say"nevermind we'll go with the next lower bid from before" would you be OK with the money you already made & the time you spent?
