Question about snap switches

Hello. Thanks for the Forum. I am a student electrician. I work with many electricians who wire an entire house with AWG 12 on 20 amp circuits, including the lighting circuit. Then they install 15 amp rated regular snap switches for the lights. Is this ok? I know the NEC allows 15 amp receptacles on a 20 amp circuit, but what about switches? 404.14(A)(1) states ... [loads] shall not exceeding the amp rating of the switch..... So if a 15A switch is only controlling a small load such as a lighting fixture, is it ok to be in a 20 amp circuit? Thank you.

Yes, a 15 amp switch is fine if the load it controls is less than 15 amps.

Welcome to the forum.
