I'd simply use an FA (female adapter) fitting.

Paradigm deviation is dependent on details not yet in evidence.

I agree with Smart $ but would add the comment that, when using PVC with classified locations, most designs/installations have usually overlooked Sections 501.30(A) and 250.100.

In addition to that image being an MA as pointed out by Roger, yes an FA is suitable for direct burial per 352.6 and 352.10(G).
