Question about "Tandem 4' fixtures mounted to 3/4&

I have a question about the method to install two new fixtures 4' flourescent t5 over a skating rink.

The existing fixtures are 400 watt metal halide and are supported from a 3/4" conduit. the utility is able to rebate money for the project and has designed to utilize two four foot four lamp fixtures each fixture weighs about 14 lbs.

I am planning on using a piece of UNISTRUT as a wireway, I have found a swivel connector attach to the UNISTRUT and mount the connector to the pipe threads.

IS this a permissable installation ?

Does anyone have a better idea about install method?

Re: Question about "Tandem 4' fixtures mounted to 3/4&

If I read this correctly you want to hang two 4' fixtures connected end to end with unistrut along the tops. There will be a swivel connector in the center that will connect to the existing 3/4" conduit.

The first problem I can see is that you will have problems keeping the fixtures level, they aren't necessarily balanced. Better to add another support on one end and use the existing on the other.

Re: Question about "Tandem 4' fixtures mounted to 3/4&

The Light Fixtures are acually mounted side by side each fixture is approx 20" wide and 48" long. I figure if I mount both fixtures side by side support with three small pieces of strut. the Middle 1 5/8" strut I was planning to utilize as a wireway. with end covers and solid cover to enclose the fixture wire and whip to the existing branch circuit feeding the existing 400 watt Metal Halide fixture being replaced; and two additional narrow strut pieces just to add rigidity to the fixture assembly.

The assembly would then roughly have demensions of approx 40" x 48". I thought I would attach the fixture assembly to the 3/4" co nduit by a swivel connector hanging from the 3/4" conduit,

I do have a length of drop chain as a fixture safety support dropped beside the conduit and attacvhed to the existing HID fixture, I had planned on just adding an eyebolt and attaching to the strut to support this.

The ceiling height in the rink is about 60' tall in the center and the fixtures are mounted at 25' above the ice surface. the bleachers are located on both sides of the ice surface and the fixtures over the bleachers are mounted individually but to a similiar 3/4" conduit drop.

I called the fixture manufacturer rep STONCO/ CRESCENT but have not gotten any response or suggestion from them as well.
