I am presently a licensed Electrician in New Jersey and I understand that New Jersey does not reciprocate with any other state with regards to licensing. I have gone to the Florida State web site to see what I need to do to take the test but Im not sure if Im just dense or what but could someone who has already gone through this maybe expain it a little better. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Tony, not sure if you ever got an answer from this question but you can call the FL. Elecrical Contrators Licensing Board at 1850-922-5012..if this does not help let me know...

Contact the ECLB and ask them to give you a list of "Application Preparation Consultants". These organizations assist you by getting the necessary forms and information to the board in a timely manner.

I would venture that an application to he board self-completed has nearly a 100% rejection rate, whereas these organizations provide nearly a 100% approval rate.

The system is backwards and upside-down, but it really is your best bet though it's going to cost you a few extra bucks...

I filled my application out myself and somehow got it passed the first time. I did spend about 2 1/2 months putting it together though. It was a huge relief that it got approved, but at the same time it was such a miserable experience that after I ultimately passed my test I used an expediter for my post-application. I would agree to use the pros on this, but it is costly, $1,000 ballpark for each (initial and post).

What a racket.... Does it really need to be this difficult? Isnt Florida the State that screwed up the 2000 election? Maybe they should focus their red tape on this and not makin it difficult for the little people.

The actual members of the DBPR boards are very intellegent and make good decisions. The problem comes for the state legislators that imposes new rules and changes on a whim without any real consideration for how to fund it, staff it, enforce it, ect... In addition, the initial application intake staff may possibly be the least trained individuals to ever hold a positsion of significant responsibility and importance. Most applications never get to the board due to these staffers, and those that do are sometimes missing pages or not correct in some way not due to the applicant but due to the staff errors.

I would guess that 80% or more of the applications received by the ECLB in particular are rejected based on the application itself and not the person applying.

A "racket" is a pretty good term. A JOKE is even better, except it is never funny for anyone involved.

I would use a pro on it. It can be a pain. You have to have all you're information in 90 days be for the test date to even get a seat. Make sure You have you're W-2 's since you have been in business and the ones that you have before you were in business for you're self. You Have to show a net worth If not mistaken 10 to $25,000. Have a credit report in you're business and personal, and use there choice of credit agencies. Hope that was helpful

why do you have to have their credit agencies?????
It's there rule!I guess because of all the fraud and stuff. Oh yeah you never even get to see it because it goes straight to Tallahassee. If I remember right the cost was $135.00 for the business and $95.00 for the personal but please do not quote me.

The part about never seeing it is true, but when I got mine done I just went to one of the agencies on the list, they gave me a sealed envelope, with some kind of pressed mark so you couldn't open it without them knowing, and this sealed envelope was enclosed within the application that was sent off.
