Question for Massachusetts Electricians - Please

My nephew is a first year apprentice here in Virginia. He would like to move back to Boston after his second year. Does anyone know if his classroom hours and/or OJT will transfer if he moves.

I think you will need to formally apply for the journeyman exam to get a firm answer. Generally the board will allow an out of state electrician to sit for an exam, as long as they feel the candidate has received equal training to the requirements in MA. The phone number for the Board is 617 727-9931 (and 9930) unless it has changed recently.

When I went for my license I included 1500 hours from my work in New Mexico. It didn't seem like a big deal, just get the green 'hours sheet' signed by the boss in Virginia.

This was in 2002.
