Question for the Jersey guys

If it's a stationary generator there is a main circuit breaker on the face of the control panel. Doesn't that count as a disconnect means ? If it's a portable generator I would think that the cord and plug is a sufficient disconnect means. Not sure about your question or where you got this info from.

I am speaking of a stationary gen. not a portable. Here in NC the consensus from inspectors is that the breaker on the gen. doesn't qualify as a disconnect because it doesn't meet the requirements of 445.18 or 225.36 Also most of those breakers are behind a cover and are not readily accessible and they do not comply with 225.31 & 32.

I have been told twice by gen. installers on another forum that the gen disconnect was not requried in New Jersey. I was just wondering why they would or if they did amend code to allow the install with out a disconnecting means for the gen.
