I don't know of any rule specifically against this, but wanted to be sure:
I have a setup with an existing 200A main panel. I'm going to be installing a sub panel across the house for a residential remodel. I want to install a 200A sub panel that is fed using 4/0 aluminum SER utilizng polaris connectors to 3awg copper on a 100A breaker inside the main panel-to actually connect to the breaker. In so doing, if the residence ever upgraded the actual service, the 4/0 ser is already right there at the main panel and could be easily repurposed-at least more easily than having to rerun the whole damn circuit.
I see no reason why this would be a problem since the upstream breaker would limit the current amperage to 100A, but wanted to be sure.
