I have a client who wants to mount 12 volt puck lights in their cabinet, some of which they want to shine up. Can 12 volt puck lights be mounted to shine up in terms of any heat issues, etc.?

I agree that you should follow mfg instructions.

I also believe there should be more heat issues with the light shining down than there would be with it shining up. If the light was designed to shine up only then shining it down is going to cause heat issues. If no mention of being able to invert the light it may just be because it has not been evaluated for this type of install and not that it creates a known problem.

But you still need to install to instructions to meet code.

I see no problem with puck lights shinning up. If the instructions state only use facing down then that is a different issue. An inspector may have issues with it depending on the installation. Can someone place something flammable on the lights, etc?????? That may be where the issue is. I often have used flourescent lights over cabinets shining up as well as undercabinet lights both halogen and fluorescent.
