Question on a recessed can light above a shower?

If a recessed can light is mounted 9+ feet directly above the water level of a shower pan, does it need to be GFCI protected? I'd appreciate any NEC reference to recessed can lights above showers in residences. Thanks.
 
Shower lights do not require GFCI protection unless required by the light's manufacturer which IMO isn't many. I've never installed one that had such a requirement.
