These days the caution is that some THHN is 'only' THWN, not THWN-2. So the conductors are only rated for 70C in wet conditions (eg. conduit out of doors).
Southwire's THHN is not also THWN-2 except for certain varieties

Maybe its just me but I have noticed a lot of electricians call everything THHN. And if I mention "you can't use it outdoors unless it has a 'W" I get a funny look like they don't now what i am talking about
