Question on Electrical installs

Hello!

I have a couple general questions I am still learning as a new business owner!

1# when replacing a 3 wire dryer outlet to a 4 prong do you have to run a new wire if there is no ground

2# do you have to update the breaker to GFCI protected when replacing a outlet

3# does a garage electric hanging heater need a disconnect with in sight or so many feet of the heater ?

1. How would you replace a 3-prong outlet with a 4-prong without having a ground wire?
2. Depends on your area and what codes they adopted. (I personally wouldn't)

2 If you are replacing a 3 wire outlet with a 3 wire you do not need GFCI unless it's a location requiring GFCI.
Replacing 2 wire with 3 wire requires GFCI See 406.4(D)
3. Depends on heater See 424.19
