Can I get some feedback/NEC code book section on using the following low voltage (12V) lighting fixtures which will be installed under water in a fountain in a residential application? We have been requested to install the following fixture: Atlantis 1407 (Cooper Lighting Lumiere) under water fixture. The fixture comes with 15' of low voltage SJO cord and a machined solid brass liquidtight fitting. Can this 15' of cord be ran in the earth to a splice point in the earth using king nuts? Or does this cord need to go back to a junction box above ground? A friend of mine mentioned that he thinks that the connection needs to be made in a junction box and that the junction box needs to be a minimum of 12" above the water level of the fountain??? Any input on this would be greatly appreciated. I certainly plan on having the primary side of this system to be GFCI protected. Please advise, thanks.
P.S. Here is the url for the Atlantis 1407:
