 i am filling out all of the required documents that are being asked by the board of electrical contractors, i live in New Jersey and i have well over seven years of experience on the field but i am having problems with most of my previous employers filling it out , i send out five of the Work Experince Certification and i have not received any of them back i kindly wrote them a letter and included with the for was a pre-paid envelope to make their life easier, are they required to fill it out? can i send my aplication without the WEC and just send my tax returns or W2? what can i do i am growing a bit frustrated cause i am really looking forward to take my test, please advice!

I had a problem with one previous employer who wouldn't sign off on the paper work even after sending him certified mail at least 3 times. The board didn't seem to care. And from what I was told there is nothing legally that you can do about it.

I would get your W2's together and present them to the Board of Examiners office and tell them of your situation. I'm sure this isn't the first time this has happened.

Good luck.

Call your labor and industries office or whatever entity governs licensing and ask them what you can do. In WA a employer has a certain amount of time to respond to a written request for experience then the state fines them.

This is a major problem in our industry. Many States insist on the verification being signed off by employers and refuse to accept any other verification. You are in reality asking this Electrical Contractor to sign-off on the creation of his future competition, wow I can see why they are egar to sign-off....... There are a few States who will allow fellow employee's who hold a Master Electrician license and have worked with the applicant or an Electrical Inspector who has seen the work of a particular electrician to sign-off and I support that. If I am a Licensed Master Electrician and I work on the job with a Journeyman Electrician for XYZ Electric for a period of 3 years why should I not be allowed to verify his qualifications and experience for that 3 year period...?

You only have to prove the last 5 years, I went though the same problem with an employer good luck. I finally got him to sign off on it but it took some work. good luck
