I have a customer that lives in a Hi Rise building but doesnt have any control over the temperature that comes out of her individual window (hotel style) air handleing units. She can only control OFF High low speeds on a rotary knob . so basically its either too hot or too cold.
Has anyone installed a wireless t stat? The fact that there is no temperature control or need for hot or cold signal makes this simply need something to tell it to turn on or off right? I am trying to find a skematic on the controler for its wiring.

The rotary control could be replaced with a two stage heat/two stage cool thermostat, but unless you are very good with controls and design, it would not be a good option. Also apparently the landlord limits the amount of heating and cooling available, unless this is a self contained packaged unit. A little more info would help.

Well the heat is flowing through the unit and she only has off low or high. I am assuming it is steam and chilled water. I have seen units like this that have a cord end on them which would make it easier to install. I guess my problem is that I cant find a skematic on the sending unit.

why would you need this? she can only turn the unit on or off. There is no other user controls for this. If the condo is to hot she can only turn it off untill it gets cold again, there is no switch for hot or cold.

Couple comments....

This thing might have a thermostat, but it's probably inside the unit. If there's a 3-way valve (90% of the time there is), follow the conductors and find out what controls the 3-way valve. There's often a utility thermostat inside someplace if it's not on the cover. The building typically runs 180 degree hot water through the loop in the winter, and 40 degree cold water through the loop in the summer. The space temperature is controlled by turning the 3-way valve on or off, to allow water into the fan coil unit or bypass it. The fan speed is normally left alone.

There are fan coil thermostats... something like the Honeywell T6570 series (xx74, xx75).

If the fan coil unit is the 120V cord and plug connected type (most are hardwired), you could use the inline thermostat that guys use on their torpedo heaters and just leave the fan speed set on whatever. Just cycle power to the whole unit on and off.

This would automatically limit extreme temp variations, instead of her manually cutting it off every time it gets hot, this would give better temp control by staging the temp as required. When room temp is at set level, the thermostat turns off the unit, as it gets colder, stage one cuts on the low speed, if the temp continues to drop, stage two cuts in high speed. The same works in the summer in the cool mode if this is a chilled water system. Somewhat complicated control scheme though if you are not familar with control design. I designed something simular for the orange box greenhouse structure on the last stores that had greenhouses in the 90's, except they used unit heaters for heat, but a series of ridge vents, shade cloths, and exhaust fans to cool.
