Hello, I'm installing a underground 200A meter base combo on a detached garage and then running underground approximately 180' to the house to feed the MBP in the house. I plan on setting a breaker in the meter combo to feed a subpanel in the detached garage that the meter base is installed on. With this setup am I permitted to apply 310.15 (B)(7) on the feeders to the MBP at the house? The more I think about it the more I keep going back and forth in my head haha, if I was feeding the garage from the MBP at the house it would be no question but this design has me wondering so thanks for any help!

It would seem feeders to house carry entire connected load, minus that for shop. What size feeders to house?

Well, if 310.15 applies I was planning on running 4/0 AL quadruplex, if it doesnt I'll need to run 250kcmil. I personally hate running aluminum but copper is cost prohibitive for the customer. 3

The feeder from the breaker at the meter to the panel in the garage will be full sized based on the rating of the breaker. The feeder from the garage panel to the house is permitted to be sized per 310.15(B)(7).

The feeder to the house is not required to be bigger than the service conductors. So if both are for 200A, 310.15(B)(7) applies and you can use 4/0.

The service conductors are not permitted to be sized per 310.15(B)(7) for this installation.
