Looking into software for invoicing and such used this before but not sure what else is out there that matches it. I like the fact that you can get it on a montly basis versus buying the software but wonder what others think or are using...

I've used Quickbooks for many years. I buy a new version every 5 years or so. Works well for me. I probably use a very small percentage of the features. Probably be worth while to take a class.

We use Quickbooks. Buy the newer version every 3-5 years. Took a class before deciding to switch.
Used Businessworks for many years. Got tired of paying for updates annually. Tax tables needed newest version or something like that.

Looked at Peachtree--my account recommended Quickbooks.

Ask your accountant what they recommend.

1 thing to be aware of in QuickBooks is that job costing doesn't work very well if you use an outside payroll service. If you write your own pay checks, it works well. And I will chime in with the others in suggesting you get help setting it up.

If you use a third party payroll service...I have found the easiest way to enter the rate for the job costing labor hours is to divide up the total payroll and divide by the number of employees which will give you an avaerage rate that you can apply across the board for each job's labor hours that week.

Obviuosly this is not 100% accurate because it does not account for he actual labor rate for each particular employee on each job, but it will account for the weekly total of all jobs and hours.
