OK guys here it is....

We may be wrong but everyone here swears that the NEC states that you cannot reduce the size of a Raceway in the middle of a run without using a conduit body, box, etc. however we can't find it?! Are we wrong and if not where is it?

Re: Raceway Reduction

This has come up before and there is nothing in the NEC that would specifically prevent this.

I have had to do this on a PVC run under ground, I needed a 3/4" run but ran out of 3/4" and switched to 1" PVC to finish.

I did it by putting a 1" PVC coupling onto the 3/4" bell end.

So in my case an inspector might say 352.6 PVC fittings to be listed.

They where listed fittings but are they listed to do what I did?

Re: Raceway Reduction

As long as the small section of the raceway meets raceway fill requirements increasing the size is OK. But the reducing bushings are hard to push a fish tape through, and the increased size at an end may mislead someone as to the actual size of the raceway.

Re: Raceway Reduction

i agree with you tom but here is the catch about using reducing conducts on the larger conducts where it will be termated i marked down the small size so that way it is given a quick warning like what bob say useing 3/4 conduct but ran out then have to use 1 inch conduct to finish off but what i will genrally do is marked near the box or termation area so that be well aware about smaller conduct at some point so advoid code volitaions with sizing conducts
