Radio coming thru outlets

I got a call to check out this guy's house and he claims that his neighbor has some radio towers and his radio signal is coming into the house thru his electric lines.
I haven't been out there yet to check it out and wanted to see if anybody has anything like this before?
It would seem to me that the FCC would have some sort of regulations on something like this, and a filter? on 1 person's house would not help the other folk's houses in the area.
Any kind of feedback is welcome, thank you.

Just about every electrical device has the following statement on it:

"This device complies with Part 15 of the FCC rules.
Operation is subject to the following two conditions:
1. This device may not cause harmful interference, and
2. This device must accept any interference received, including interference that may cause undesired operation."

The first applies to the neighbor, but good luck enforcing it.
The second applies to your customer, and basically states "Tough cookies".

My guess is this is a ham radio? If there's any hams here, you may get a good answer to the problem. Otherwise, you could seek out a radio forum and ask there.
 
More than likely a Ham operator. As a Ham myself I can tel you it is the operators problem to fix, not yours. Most HAM's are very cooperative in resolving interference issues, so inform him and give him/her a chance to resolve before taking more drastic action like reporting them to the FCC
 
Hey rrr_usty, after you check out the guy's house, please let us know what the symptoms were. Interference with TV reception? Static on the stereo system? Was the toaster talking?:grin:

Unless it's an illegal CB operator cranking out a KW.

depends on the operators experience and resources. First you have to identify what device is suffering, and where/how the interence is entering. Most will install filters at there expense

First thing any Ham will do is check his equipment for proper operation and work his way down from there. If the operator is inexperienced most are members of a local club and will refer to other members with experience..

So at least give them a chance and some time to resolve. Most Hams are very dedicated and sensitive to such issues and want to be good neighbors.

The FCC could care less about illegal CB operators, they have no , manpower or budget to go after them, they are do busy kissing up, to the big money media. The FCC is not there to protect the public, anymore.
He most likely has a neighbor using a CB radio, in what outlets can the radio be heard ?

Solutions often involve a high pass filter on the cable TV line, wrapping cords of affected appliances around a ferrite core, and sometimes the employment of isolation transformers on the affected items.
 
I had a customer that had the local FM radio station on the background on their phone line. I was there to install a new phone line from the end of the condo buildings to their condo in the middle. They didn't even have a phone line to ma bell hooked in! I thought maybe it was bugged or hooked into the antenna ground field of the neighboring tower field somehow. There are some cheap line taps you can do on FM frequencies. Never did fix it but made good money on the frequent return visits. Crazy people will pay big time to validate there craziness. It normally happens after the first of the month when there disability check arrives.
 
Man, I would love to get FM on my phone. I think I'd also like it on my outlets. I guess I would have to build a pretty sophisicated filter, though, if I wanted to pick my station ?
 
I keep a few of these on hand for customers like that.

There have been some reports of people who believe in the efficacy of tin-foil hats and similar devices. Reasons for use include preventing perceived harassment from paranormal beings or stopping the experience of hearing voices in one's head. Also the belief that the foil deflects mind control signals from project HAARP that allegedly transmits signals from mobile phone towers. These draw on the stereotypical images of mind control operating by ESP or technological means, like microwave radiation. Belief in the effectiveness of tin-foil hats is popularly linked to mental illnesses such as paranoid schizophrenia.[1]
