This is a local requirement but I am interested if any where else requires this? A receptacle has to be installed in the attic close to the radon gas vent pipe for future use if a vent fan has to be installed. I am doing so but just interested if anyone else is required to do so and if so how do you know they are pulling radon gas out?

Re: Radon gas vent fan

I have seen these in basements. They vent radon gas from under the slab.
Have not seen them in attics.

Re: Radon gas vent fan

I've provided the receptacle for a couple, where the fan is in the attic.

Radon mitigation is up to individual homeowners here. One home will have a measurable problem and the house next door will not.

I've only been involved with solutions installed in existing buildings. After sealing every crack, hairline or larger, in the basement floor, the fan works to maintain a negative pressure on the underside of the slab.

When the sealing is effective and maintained, the results of the subsequent radon tests are better.

Re: Radon gas vent fan

FWIW, my understanding is that fan shouldn't be in basement in case fan "leaks", just pumping radon into house. Should be either outdoors or in attic.

Re: Radon gas vent fan

I have seen a few of these pre-wired in a couple of modular homes in the upstate NY area. We have never been required to terminate them on a receptacle, we just cap and plate the box in the attic.

Re: Radon gas vent fan

Had one place where an electric box in the attic had to be provided for a possable fucture radon fan.
