Having trouble with the controller blowing the 24 volt glass fuse. I have disconnected the 24 volt wiring out to the valves and problem is sill there. I have also changed the relay out also and still the fuse blows. I am coming to the conclusion that the new relay was bad, I have also changed out the plug in 120 / 24 volt transformer. Has anyone came across this problem ?

You can't short the leads together or use shorted cable. Its called a bolted fault, and blows fuses in any voltage equipment.

Easiest way: I'd install the controller with none of the zone valves hooked up. Does the fuse hold? Then I'd take each zone wire one at a time and touch it directly to the load side of the fuse. Eventually you'll find the zone that's shorted, if it's not the controller.

I'd also consider megging it.

Never have. My responsibility stops at the receptacle the system plugs into.

Are you just too good to troubleshoot 24v sprinkler systems? Why? It all pays the same.....

Do you refuse to change pressure switches too because there's a little plumbing involved? What about water heater elements?

I don't have a problem going out of my way every once in a while to help my customers out. I like a little variety....

I removed all the zone wires, the fuse still blew. I have changed out the controller, relay, transformer . I removed the coil wire and the fuse stayed in, I am asking myself did the HO have a new relay that was bad?

Bad controller

I worked at a college in Washington state last year, and there was a problem with rainbird controllers new from supplier. Best to bench test it first before installing, then you go to site with a known good controller and won't have to worry if the problem is in the controller. Were taking back 2-3 controlllers before fining good one. Suppliers new there were problems, so took them back without hassle.
If you like troubleshooting doesn't matter if its 24 volt or 480 its all good.
