Can you use a regular 2 gang box for a welder and RV plug or do you need to buy a range box? I didn't know there was a range box, I thought I heard my local supply house guy mention range box... I have a welder outlet to install and a separate RV outlet as well. I believe they are both 50a. I assume the range box has a capability of accepting a larger conductor? Im a commercial guy, sorry for the dumb question.

The range box you speak of is commonly called a tombstone. It's all-in-one black bakelite and is surface mounted. Takes up less space than a 4-11/16 box which can be an issue under a range. Weather to use one or a box with receptacle and cover is just a matter of preference.

Both will accept the same range of conductor sizes.

If the RV outlet is going to be outside, you would be better to get an RV box. They come in a 30A and 50A version. They are also capable of the cord being plugged in with the cover closed.
If the welder is to be outside, you could also use the RV box, you might have to change the receptacle but that's easy. If the welder is inside, I just use either a 4x4x2-1/8" box or 4-11/16" square. Use a raised industrial cover for either.
