Hey guys

I have 5 {12.4} kw ranges i need to know what the demand load is for these 5 ranges? regards jim Oh and how you arrived at it.

Re: range calculations

Go to article 220 and do the best you can, then come back with what you came up with and someone will critique your result.

Re: range calculations

220.19 over 12kw increase by 5%. 12.4kw so .4x5#of ranges=2kw so 2x5%=1 so where do i go from here the % for 5 ranges is is 20%

Re: range calculations

Jim, just so you know, I'm not trying to give you a hard time.

Note 1 of table 220.19 says the maximum demand will be increased 5% for each additional kilowat of rating or major fraction thereof by which the rating of the individual ranges exceeds 12 KW. With this wording, the .4 being less than a major fraction could be dropped.

With this being the case, column C gives you the KW rating, not a percentage, so you would read across the quantity of 5 ranges line and see 20 KW as the answer.

Re: range calculations

ok, then roger what is considered a major fraction? If .4 kilowatts is not a major fraction what would be considered a major fraction 1/2 kilowatt .5. What's the cut off?i don't understand this. So what your saying is disregard the .4 all together. can someone clarify this for me please?regards jim

Re: range calculations

Jim, "major fraction" is more than .5 (1/2)in any math.

You will see in Chapter 9 note (7) that a specific fraction of .8 is specificaly writen for that application, but for this thread .5 is the cut off.

Maybe someone else will solidify this for you. :D

Re: range calculations

Are the values in column A 220.19 actual kw ratings to be applied for the number of apppliances? or the % multiplier?column b less than 3.5 over 12 kw and column c 3.5 to 8.75 over 12kw? :p

Re: range calculations

Annex D Examples p70.667

Ranges

Annex D p70.672

Example D6 Max demand for range loads.

thanks boys
:D ;)
