In residential,I usually when don't know the rating on the range people will use, or the length of the circuit is significant, i install #6 wire with a 50 amp OCPD.
But lately i've installing more of the #8 with 40 amp OCPD ranges.

Wich one you guys run more often?

This particular rewiring i'm working on is a rental house, so no telling how many different tenants live in there the next 10 years or what kind of range they'll have in there.
Its not a whole lot of wire we're talking about here (length wise),
would you go with 50 amps in this scenario.?

I've always installed 50 amp circuits for ranges unless the customer was installing a specific range and I had the specs for it. I'm afraid to install anything less.
